This August, the Wine School of Philadelphia turns 25, and Summer Wine School returns. It’s an intensive for people who are done being intimidated by wine and ready to get serious, fast. In a single week, you can earn your sommelier pin, complete your wine instructor certification, or both. No year-long commitment, no gatekeeping, taught hands-on in Rittenhouse.

The Accelerated Sommelier Course begins Aug. 17 and runs for one week of evening classes. It condenses the full Core Sommelier Course (blind tasting, wine theory, and the essential wine regions), ending with the skills needed for the. It’s built for wine lovers,  beverage professionals, winemakers, and anyone ready to fall in love with wine education.

The Wine Instructor Certification begins Aug. 24 and runs for one week. This program is for anyone who wants to teach or speak about wine for a living. You’ll learn to lead a tasting, structure a class, explain wine clearly, and run wine education as a business:  learn the methods that have made the wine school a 25-year success. Paired with your core sommelier pin, it qualifies you to teach National Wine School courses.

Since 2001, the school has trained thousands of students, and its graduates run restaurants and wine lists across Philadelphia and beyond. The Philadelphia Inquirer named it the 2026 Silver Medal Winner for Top Trade School, and WineMaker magazine called it one of the best sommelier training programs in America.
